God blessed us on May 31st, 2006, when our son, Yano, was born. He was a healthy 9 lbs. and full of joy. He loves music, fishing, trains, and especially watching cartoons on Noggin. Life was good, until one day our little son was not eating like he used to. Then he had a fever spike to 104 one evening, and then a rash followed. His Pediatrician said to just give him Tylenol to reduce the fever. A couple of days later our son began to limp. We immediately went back to the Pediatrician who said its most likely a virus and to let it run its course. After complaining of severe night sweats, swollen lymph nodes, and still limping, our Pediatrician again said it is Viral Synovitis. To make a long story short, we visited the Pediatrician numerous times, and even the emergency room, and it was the same story; a virus.
We, as parents, were not happy with the diagnosis, so we went to MUSC children's hospital, where they diagnosed him with Osteomyelitis. After 6 days there, we were released bc Yano's limp improved, but his inflammation was still high in the blood. We were relieved, but that was short lived. 3 days later our son began limping again, and he developed yellow upper eyelids, and a knot on his forehead. We went back to MUSC hospital, where they didn't know why our son has a "bump" on his head and yellow eyelids. They told us he must have hit his head. I told my wife I thought it was a tumor or cyst and insisted they do an MRI. After the MRI, we were taken to a separate room and given the news that not only shocked us, but changed our lives forever. Our son had stage 4 Neuroblastoma, and was given a 30% chance to live, because it has spread to his head, hips, pelvis, spine, and bone marrow.

Currently, as of 11-24-09, we have since moved Yano to Comer Children's Hospital, in Chicago, where he has already had a major surgery to remove his spinal tumor, and undergone 6 months of chemotherapy. He is now in the process of having a stem cell transplant, or rebirth as they term it, in hopes of eradicating the cancer cells. Yano will also need radiation therapy, 4 months of accutane therapy, and 4 months of antibody therapy.

Please pray for our little one as he has a huge battle ahead of him. May God protect and bless all these kids afflicted with these horrible diseases.
